Oral Surgery in Elgin, IL

Woman Smiling in Dental Chair | Dentist Elgin ILFacing any type of oral surgery can be challenging, even for patients who are not necessarily anxious about dental visits. But in the hands of an experienced and caring dentist like Dr. Won Sung, oral surgery does not need to be stressful or complicated.

One of our objectives is to build trusting, long-term relationships so we can get to know you and understand your needs. That way, if oral surgery’s necessary, you’ll feel relaxed and comfortable knowing that your care is in the hands of friendly, familiar professionals who only want the best for you.

We won’t decide on any type of surgery for you until we’ve answered all your questions and explained why the procedure is necessary. With years of experience, Dr. Sung and our team have developed a gentle approach, and we know exactly what it takes to keep our oral surgery patients comfortable.

Reasons for Tooth Extraction

Our primary goal is to save teeth, so we always look for the most conservative treatments that will address the problem. But a situation can arise where severe decay, loss of tooth structure, or an abscess leaves us no choice but to remove the tooth.

There are a number of situations where we may recommend tooth extraction:

  • A tooth has grown at an odd angle and threatens the position of other healthy teeth.
  • A broken or decayed tooth is too damaged to be repaired with a root canal or similar procedure.
  • If you have advanced gum disease, we may recommend tooth extractions to save the gums and the rest of the teeth.
  • We’re preparing for orthodontic treatment and need to remove some teeth for the best results.
  • A wisdom tooth is impacted or has erupted in such a way that it compromises surrounding teeth.

Your Complete Comfort Is Our Top Priority

Man Smiling in Dental Chair | Elgin IL DentistLosing a tooth is an overwhelming experience, no matter how controlled the circumstances are. But the members of our professional team have worked with many fearful patients over the years.

We encourage you to talk to us about your concerns because understanding how you feel helps us tailor your treatment accordingly. We’ll guide you through the experience and do everything we can to make it as stress-free as possible.

If you’d like a little extra help with your anxiety, we’re pleased to offer safe, effective nitrous oxide sedation. Nitrous won’t make you go to sleep, but it will help you feel pleasantly relaxed and calm so you’re less aware of what’s happening around you.

After your procedure, we’ll send you home with instructions, then follow up with a phone call that evening to make sure you’re doing okay.
